The soap opera that is the Washington Redskins continues. After rumors surfaced over the weekend that they were trying to trade Robert Griffin III, the Redskins announced Monday that Kirk Cousins will be the starting quarterback for 2015.
What a turn of events. Do we need anymore proof that Jay Gruden isn't a fan of RG3?
First he left him in preseason game after repeatedly take huge shots, then held him out of last week's preseason game after conflicting reports on his concussion situation. Now he named Cousins as the starter for all of 2015, while repeatedly saying, "moving forward."
If you're RG3 you have to want a change of scenery.

Of all of the underachieving teams in baseball the Angels might actually be playing the worst. They're quickly falling out of the playoff race after losing 8 of their last 10 games.
They were swept by the Indians this weekend and looked pretty bad in the process.
The Angels lineup only managed 6 runs the entire weekend. The defense wasn't much better with outfielders losing two fly balls in the sun on Sunday.
They're currently 6.5 games back in the AL West and 3.5 back in the Wild Card. In short, for what this team is on paper, they suck.
It's almost as if they'd rather have a full off season instead of a shortened one due to a playoff run.

A Dog Ran Free On A Minor League Field After A Promotional Dog Race
The El Paso Chihuahuas, Triple A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, held a promotional dog race called, "the fastest wiener in El Paso." A wiener dog race, of course.
Not only is the race alone hilarious, one of the dogs got away and ran all over the field.
I'm a huge fan of animals and people who do the unexpected. So when a dog gets loose during a minor league promotion, it puts a smile on my face.

Dan Snyder Won't Let The Redskins Trade RG3
Not that there are any interested teams, but Redskins owner Dan Snyder won't let the Redskins trade Robert Griffin III. Because the Redskins have been an absolute joke for years now.
It's the most Redskins thing you'll read all day. According to ESPN the football people within the Redskins organization want to move on from the former first round pick.

The Redskins even have had trade conversations about Griffin with a handful of NFL teams, but have found no interest, and it remains unclear whether ownership would allow Washington to trade him, sources said.It looks like they're preparing to have a very expensive backup quarterback. Candace, a St. Louis Rams cheerleader, was surprised prior to Saturday's preseason game in St. Louis by her military husband who was returning from overseas. What a way to start a game, a preseason game at that.

John Harbaugh is an asshole, not really a secret to most football fans. But he had it on full display during last night's Ravens-Redskins preseason game.
It's one thing to go across the field and yell at the opposing head coach, it's another to take out your frustrations on a sideline reporter.
If you don't want to answer the question about what you said to Jay Gruden when you went all the way across the field that's fine, don't then act like an ass when he asks follow up questions about the game.
Harbaugh of course decided to act unprofessionally and take his frustrations out on a guy just trying to do his job.

A fan at the Yankees-Braves game in Atlanta fell from the upper deck during the 7th inning. The scene at Turner Field was chaotic after the fan fell and the TV broadcast was aware that he fell because it happened right in front of the radio booths.
The fan was later pronounced dead at the hospital. What a crazy accident. Alcohol is rumored to have been involved.

During their preseaon game the Ravens and Redskins got into a little shoving match in front of the Redskins sideline. No big surprise Steve Smith was in the middle of it.
What wasn't expected was Ravens head coach John Harbaugh yelling at Redskins head coach Jay Gruden after he ran across the field to get his players to return to their sideline.
And here we are thinking preseason games don't matter.

Terez Owens posted some pictures that are said to be Pete Rose at the Mandalay Bay sports book. While the pictures do look a lot like Rose, none of the pictures show the MLB hits leader's face.

I think it's a shame that the league's hits leader isn't in the Hall of Fame. He clearly had a career worthy of the honor. But on the other hand he broke one of the big rules and bet on games while a player/manager.

High School Receiver DJ Turner Suffered A Gruesome Ankle Injury
4 star receiver DJ Turner of DeMatha Catholic high school is a Maryland suffered a serious ankle injury Saturday morning. The senior, Maryland commit, had a defender fall on the back of his lower leg after he made a catch on a deep pass down the sidelines.
After the defender fell on his leg Turner took another step and then dropped. Once he was on the ground it was clear that he suffered a serious ankle injury.
Let's hope the kid can make a full recovery.

We won't have to wait until 2016 to see Ronda Rousey's next fight. That's because her title bout against Holly Holm has been pushed up to November 14th in Melbourne, Australia.
The fight was originally scheduled to take place on January 2nd in Las Vegas.
Dana White made the announcement on SportsCenter. The fight at UFC 193 is expected to break attendance records.

UFC fighter Brendan Schaub and ex-boyfriend of Ronda Rousey called out his ex because she's dating an alleged wife beater.
Rousey has condemned and trashed Floyd Mayweather over his past domestic violence allegations and charges. But dating a man accused of domestic violence seems to be okay with the UFC women's champ.
Rousey has been linked to another UFC fighter, Travis Browne. He's been accused of beating his wife earlier this year. A lot drama in the UFC.
The UFC is going to try to keep this relationship out of the general public's eye, because they don't want their biggest star caught up in a domestic violence love triangle.

Enrique Hernandez Fell Down Swinging At An Aroldis Chapman Fastball
Enrique Hernandez swung as hard as he could at this Aroldis Chapman fastball. It didn't help, he still swung and missed.
Hernandez also ended up on the ground after his super aggressive swing. If he would have hit it all would have been forgiven.
He didn't and he ended up looking silly.
You don't have to swing as hard as you can to make contact with Chapman's fastball.
Stop Giving Foul Balls To Little Kids
Handing foul balls to little kids has to stop, unless you've talked to them prior to the game about what to do with the ball. Kids keep throwing the foul balls after their parents give them the ball.
Last night this kid in Tampa threw away her foul ball. She must have some nice people in front of her because they gave her the ball back.

Robert Griffin III Doesn't Know If He Had A Concussion
Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III didn't sound convinced that he suffered a concussion during his last preseason game. He did leave the game with an injury, an injury the Redskins said was a concussion.
Unless he is drinking Russell Wilson's magic anti-concussion water, someone isn't being completely honest.
The Redskins claim concussion. RGIII on the other hand, didn't deny or confirm whether he suffered one. He only made the circumstances surrounding his alleged concussion even more confusing.
Leave it up to the Redskins to screw up the reporting of injuries.
Johnny Football To Be Shutdown For The Rest Of The Preseason
Browns head coach Mike Pettine confirmed on Thursday that Johnny Manziel will be shutdown for the rest of the preseason. Manziel has a sore elbow that will require rest.
Thank God he gave an update on his backup quarterback and the remaining preseason games.
Now all we need is a status on Tim Tebow from the Eagles and maybe some weight room activities. Or something else as insignificant as this Manziel news.

Daniel Murphy With An Unreal No Look Flip To The Covering Pitcher
Jeff Francouer smashed a ball that ricocheted off of Mets pitcher Carlos Torres and toward Daniel Murphy at first base. Murphy smothered it and with his back to first base flipped towards the bag hitting Torres in stride as he covered the bag.
As you can tell by the announcers reaction it was a hell of a play. The play ended the inning sending the tied game further into extra innings.

TMZ is reporting that an ex-girlfriend of Derrick Rose is suing the NBA star for drugging and raping her back in 2013. The woman is not named in the suit but claims to have dated Rose from 2011-2013.
Obviously did Rose do it. We won't have any of those questions answered until it goes to court.

Mets pitcher Hansel Robles was ready to go last night. He wasn't wasting any time and threw a couple of pitches as soon as the umpire indicated he could do so.

USC head coach Steve Sarkisian held a press conference today and apologized for his actions during the Salute To Troy event. He blamed his behavior on a mixture of medication and alcohol.

AJ McCarron got his first NFL action of his career last night in Tampa. The Bengals backup QB didn't see the field last year in the preseason due to injury.

It wasn't a good weekend to be a Major League Baseball fan. Okay, that might have been an overstatement. It wasn't a good weekend for two MLB fans.
A woman was hit with a foul ball in Detroit and have to be taken to the hospital on Friday night. On Sunday another woman in Chicago took a foul ball to the dome. She too had to be taken to the hospital.
Of course there are those who are crying for protective netting, because they would rather not pay complete attention while at the game. Cubs manager Joe Maddon also thinks the lack of focus on the game is in part to blame for fans getting struck with foul balls, via NBC Chicago:
"It's awful, pay attention," Joe Maddon, the Cubs' manager, said. "Those are wonderful seats, probably paying a lot of money for them. I see people turning their back to the action. You can't do it."A lot of people don't understand that and think that just because they're not on their phone that they're paying attention. You have to truly 100% pay attention when you're that close to the action.
"When you're at the ballpark, watch what's going on," Maddon said. "Every time a ball is pitched, you look, you look, then you can talk. When my family is there, I insist that they pay attention to what's going on."
If you aren't willing to do that don't sit in those seats.

During the first quarter of today's pre season game between the Steelers and the Packers, Jordy Nelson went down with a torn ACL. A week after the Panthers lost one of their receivers to a torn ACL on a play where there was no contact.
Nelson landed awkwardly after making a catch and attempting to turn up the field at the same time. He was slow to get up and limped off. Early reports are he has a torn ACL.

I know people like to refer to Andy Pettitte as a member of the core four, but I always call it the core five.
Bernie Williams was a huge reason for the Yankees success during the late 90s and early 2000s. I know he came up a few years before the other four, but he was just as much a part of the core of those teams.
Pettitte's number was retired today, one day after his catcher Jorge Posada's number was retired. What a great weekend in New York.
The big game pitcher also threw out the first pitch to Posada to bring everything full circle. Pettitte's number is in Monument Park next to both Williams' and Posada's.

Jorge Posada Had His Number Retired By The Yankees
Jorge Posada had his number 20 retired by the Yankees on Saturday afternoon and a little bit of my childhood was retired as well. Posada was a big part of 5 Yankee championships.
He will forever be one of my favorite Yankees. What a great heartfelt speech.

The game at Comerica was delayed after a woman was hit with a foul. She was removed from the stands by a stretcher and had a very large knot next to her eye.
This will again have people calling for safety measures at baseball games. In fact Tiger pitcher Justin Verlander took to Twitter following the game to ask for more protective measures.
Sure why not let's wrap the fans in bubble wrap while we're at it too.
I have a better idea, instead of ruining everyone's experience, how about having only people who are able to protect themselves sit in these areas along the baselines where these incidents take place.
They already warn people that they could be struck and they should pay attention. If that isn't enough, then make sure the people sitting in these areas are able and willing to protect themselves if need be.

Kelvin Benjamin Carted Off The Field After Knee Injury
Carolina Panthers number one receiver, Kelvin Benjamin, was carted off the field following a knee injury during joint practice with the Miami Dolphins. Benjamin fell to the ground following a cut during a route he was running.
Initial thoughts are that it's a possible ACL injury. Panthers head coach Ron Rivera called it a sprained knee when he spoke with reporters.
