Back In 2013 Serena Williams Agreed With John McEnroe

John McEnroe's comments about Serena Williams being ranked 700 in the world if she played on the men's tour have pissed a lot of overly sensitive people off.

Especially when you consider what Williams had to say about playing men during a 2013 appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman:

"Actually it’s funny, because Andy Murray, he’s been joking about myself and him playing a match.  I’m like, ‘Andy, seriously, are you kidding me?’  For me, mens’ tennis and womens’ tennis are completely, almost, two separate sports.  If I were to play Andy Murray, I would lose 6-0, 6-0 in five to six minutes, maybe 10 minutes.  No, it’s true.  It’s a completely different sport.  The men are a lot faster and they serve harder, they hit harder, it’s just a different game.  I love to play women’s tennis. I only want to play girls, because I don’t want to be embarrassed.  I would not do the tour, I would not do Billie Jean any disservice.  So Andy, stop it.  I’m not going to let you kill me."

Would Serena be ranked 700 if she played men's tennis?  Probably not, but as she admitted, she wouldn't be destroying the top of the men's side either.

With that said there are a couple of things to keep in mind.  McEnroe is selling a book and we all know there's no such thing as bad publicity.  Secondly, it's John McEnroe's opinion.  Why would anyone give a shit about what he thinks?
