No the Mets star outfielder wasn't pitching, he was playing his brand of defense. There is no denying how valuable his bat is. And he has a plus arm. But plays like this will drive Mets fans crazy this season.
A ball was hit to the base of the wall and stayed there. Instead of attempting to pick the ball up and keep the runner at second, Cespedes acted as if the ball was stuck under the fence.
It was not stuck and the runner continued around the bases for an inside the park homerun. It has to be one of the strangest plays I've ever seen in a baseball game.
Cespedes made absolutely no attempt to pick the ball up.
